A huge thank you to Shaun for helping us raise awareness for Action on Stroke Month. 🙏
In March 2021, Shaun suffered a stroke. He was admitted to Hull Royal Infirmary, where he spent three weeks before being transferred to Rossmore Care for a further six weeks.
After that, he returned home and was cared for by his parents, with additional support from carers provided by the stroke unit.
The stroke has had a significant impact on his life. He no longer works, as he suffers from dizziness, balance issues, and leg cramps. He also experiences short-term memory loss.
He no longer drives due to a lack of confidence and his dizziness.
He very rarely socialises, only spending time with his family and other P.A.U.L For Brain Recovery service users, whom he now considers friends.
Shaun first accessed the charity in September 2021. He began attending gym sessions with Jack, the personal trainer, which helped him enormously. At the time, he was walking with the aid of a stick, something he no longer needs.
He also attends the Tuesday afternoon social sessions as well as the allotment, which are great for his mental health and allow him to enjoy the outdoors.
Shaun always felt better about himself after attending the charity’s groups.
He has always known that the charity is there for him whenever he needs someone to talk to, which is a massive help. 🧠 ❤️💙
